So far the department produced 16 PhDs. Dr. Sucheta Nair, Dr. Muhammadali N, Dr. Harikumar, Dr. Shaju P.P., Dr. Lakshmi Pradeep and Dr. Abdul Muneer V completed their PhD under the guidance of Prof. Syed Amjed Ahmed while Dr. Wilson, Dr. Priyamol, Dr. Sreekumar, Dr. Paul Manalil and Dr. Merlin Abraham completed their research degree under the supervision of Prof. C D Chakkappan. At present Dr. Muhammadali, Dr. Abdul Muneer V, Dr lakshmi Pradeep and Dr Nuaiman Andru guide PhD scholars. Dr. Meljo Thomas, Dr. Ritu Raveendran, Dr. Smitha P, Dr. Subhida E K and Sam S completed their PhD under the supervision of Dr. Muhammadali. Now, 16 scholars are doing their PhD in various areas in mass communication. Over the years many of our students were awarded JRF and NET by the UGC. In 2012, the department started publication of a research journal titled 'Communication and Journalism Research' CJR (ISSN 2348-5663). Since 2014, the department has been conducting annual national mass communication research conference (NMCRC) with active participation of more than 30 universities across India.
