News on Digital Platforms : A Study on User Behavior and its Implications for News Culture

The undisputed fact in the today’s media environment is that digital disruption has transformed the form and content of news delivery which ultimately resulted in a major shift in peoples’ news consumption behaviours. Along with the changes in news consumption behaviours, people’s perception of news also changed. Almost everything related to news media have undergone drastic changes, that are yet to be fully comprehend by industry as well as academia.This study aims at a comprehensive understanding of transformations happening in and around news realm as a result of media digitisation.
The present study is conceived with a phased data collection method including three phases. The first phase will collect qualitative data on the form and content of news on sampled platforms like news apps, news on social media platforms, online news sites of legacy media. The second phase will use survey method to elicit responses from audience and in the third phase interview schedule for focus group will be prepared to elicit media industry’s responses and rethinking on its policies and practises in the wake of digital disruption.
