Abstract: Meaningful practice of data journalism is interlinked with organizational policy, national data policy and sustainable business models feasible to each media industry. The prospects of data-driven journalistic activities are excellent in a democratic country like India where such journalism can inform so many people accurately about policy matters and decisions that depend on verifiably correct data. This research aims to spot current data journalism practices in India, map out the way ahead discussing the journalists’ role and the challenges they face. The methodology proposed for this work is a mixed one. Analysing with both quantitative and qualitative techniques may allow clarifying the research objectives. After sufficient understanding is shaped based on qualitative analysis, researcher proposed to collect data through in-depth interviews. And by the use of particular theoretical frameworks and research designs researcher proposed to answer the problem identified.
