Title: Celluloid War on Terrorism: A Reading of select Indian films

Abstract: The practice of making films based on terrorism contribute to the audiences’ understanding and interpretations about the phenomenon. Perception and thought patterns are been created or re-created through fiction. This study examines or analyses select films made since 2000 in India that examines or attempts to speak about the acts and effects of terrorism and the conditions that promote as well as countermand terrorism. Using the method of content analysis, it will examine the visual and dialogic subtexts of chosen films to understand how terrorism has been framed as a threat to the nation and analyse if the political atmosphere that exists in India affects the framing. Additionally, it will investigate the differences, if any, in portrayal of terrorism among regional film industries.
